Art Installation II
Wooden Installations

Harpefoss, Norway

The second site contrasts the first one (Art Installation I). It is much more exposed at the waterfront: wind, rocks, water and its roaring create an atmosphere of roughness. The place is a popular venue for both fishermen and young people. For that reason, the Leitmotiv of the design was to strengthen the qualities of a meeting point and togetherness. Therefore the idea was not to erect an entire building, but the marking of a place. A place, where people could sit around the fire, discuss the last catch and getting-together.

This is create by timber-triangles circling around a fire-place. The triangles can be “filled” with firewood and consequently enclose the user. The whole structure is set on a low foundation of slate stone. The way how stone and wood are connected is derived from local materials and traditions.

After all, both installations correspond in shape in order to achieve a visual relation.
